Abstract
Nine hypertensive patients with renal arterial stenosis demonstrated by angiography, who had clinical and laboratory evidences of renovascular hypertension were studied. The results were as follows;
1. There were 3 male patients and 6 female patients. The mean age was 32 years.
2. The mean duration of hypertension was 2.25 years. Family history of hypertension was present in one case and another case was resistant to medical treatment previously.
3. Angiography alone could diagnose renal lesion in 8 cases. Atherosclerosis was the cause in 2 cases, fibromuscular dysplasia in 2 cases and Takayasu arteritis in 4 cases. One case was unclassified by angiography but was suspected of Taka yasus arteritis.
4. It was successful in most cases to lateralize and demonstrate renal dysfunction by intravenous pyelography, radioactive isotope renogram and split renal function test.
5. Nephrectomy was performed in 3 cases who became normotensive soon after surgery. Among 6 cases who were received medical treatment, only two were satisfactorily controlled. One case who refused surgical treatment was expired one year later due to rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm.
